Movies had a spectacular 2019 with the likes of Korean dark comedy 'Parasite' which won four Oscars at the 92nd Academy Awards, or Sam Mendes's war epic '1917', or Joaquin Phoenix's brilliant portrayal as the 'Joker' which won the Oscar for the Best Actor, or how two car enthusiast with their hard work and dedication won the 24 hours of Le Mans against all odds in 'Ford v Ferrari' and even Ouentin Tarantino and Martin Scorsese return to directing with 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' and 'The Irishman' respectively.

2020 is also looking very promising with a lot of superhero movies, original movies and returning franchises. Here is a look at the most anticipated movies of 2020.

10 - HARLEY QUINN: BIRDS OF PREY

10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2020

The follow-up to Suicide Squad is Birds of Prey, an all-female ensemble that sees Margot Robbie returning as Harley Quinn. Harley Quinn is a bonafide superstar of the DC‌ universe. A relatively new character who shot up the ranks of popularity in a jiffy, bounces between villainy and heroism with ease, and seems to blend well with just about any other DC character you put in her path. Joining forces her is  Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, and Ella Jay Basco as Cass Cain in adventure fans are hoping will be as action-packed and fun as its stunning trailer promises.

9 - THE NEW MUTANTS

Movies in 2020

The New Mutants is meant to be the 13th and last installment of the X-Men series and follows a group of young mutants which finally hits the screen in 2020. This movie finds Five young mutants with burgeoning powers, who find themselves in an institution that seems more concerned with imprisoning and controlling them than helping them. The premise of the movie looks pretty interesting which hits theater on April 3rd.

8 - BLACK WIDOW

10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2020

A decade after her debut in Iron Man 2 Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow will finally get her own standalone film. Set in the time between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, Black Widow sees Natasha her past in Budapest and Russia. David Harbour, William Hurt, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, and Rachel Weisz are all set to star in the movie.

10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2020

After becoming the first DCEU movie to receive any critical acclaim, director Patty Jenkins and actress Gal Gadot are back with the sequel and this time in the midst of the Cold War. It’s all tubular technicolor, but with the threat of the nuclear arms race boiling in the background. Kristen Wiig plays cheetah who becomes one of Wonder Woman’s most notable comics nemeses, and Guess what? despite definitely being blown up in a plane, Chris Pine is back as Steve Trevor. Wonder Woman 1984 hits theater in June

6 - SONIC THE HEDGEHOG
10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2020

The first trailer for the blue hedgehog’s live-action appearance shocked nay, terrified many. The movie was supposed to come out last year, but because of the sheer horror that the trailer instilled in the masses, it was delayed to this Valentine’s Day. Sonic’s new look debuted last November, and definitely appears closer to his iconic video game design. The movie is a hybrid, with Sonic animated but human characters involved as well. The villain is Jim Carrey as the evil Doctor Robotnik, while James Marsden as a human who helps Sonic in his adventures.

5 - FAST & FURIOUS 9
10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2020

Each installment of the Fast & Furious franchise has gotten bigger and more outrageous, which means that Fast & Furious 9 has a high bar to clear.
Vin Diesel is back as Dominic Toretto in Fast & Furious 9 with most of his crew in tow, including Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, and Ludacris. Paul Walker's brother Cody is also joining up as the franchise digitally imposes Paul's face into his body to bring back Brian O'Connor and WWE star John Cena aslso joins the cast as Jokob, Dom's menacing brother. This one looks like one hell of a ride. F9 will be in theater's in May

4 - A QUIET PLACE PART II
10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2020

A Quiet Place was one of my favorite films of 2018, not just because of the premise (which was brilliant), but because of the filmmaking of it all. John Krasinski’s balance of tension, heart, and character was spot-on. Now, its terrifying monsters, who stalk only by sound, are back for a second scare as the threat of villains even more deadly press in on our heroes. Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe reprise their roles as Evelyn, Regan, and Marcus Abbott, joined by franchise newcomers Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou.

3 - TOP GUN: MAVERICK
10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2020

Hollywood has been making sequels lately for movies that are very, very old. Blade Runner 2049 hit 35 years after the original. Doctor Sleep hit theaters 39 years after the original. Even Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle arrived 22 years after the first film. Now, Top Gun is back. Tom Cruise returns as the titular Maverick, who is now a test pilot and flight instructor. His days of dodging responsibility, however, come to an end. Top Gun: Maverick has Maverick as a flight instructor taking on a new student known as Rooster  the son of his former partner Goose.

2 - NO TIME TO DIE
10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2020

James Bond is back for his 25th film and Daniel Craig will return for his last outing as Agent OO7. No Time to Die will see the famed special agent pulled out of post-Spectre retirement to hunt down a missing scientist and go toe-to-toe with villain Safin, played by Rami Malek. Léa Seydoux, Christoph Waltz, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, and Jeffrey Wright return, alongside newcomers Lashana Lynch, Ana de Armas, Billy Magnussen, and more.

1 - TENET
10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2020

Christopher Nolan is back, baby. Three years after his War epic 'Dunkirk', Nolan is back with my most anticipated movie of 2020. Details on the plot of Tenet remain somewhat mysterious, even after that first trailer. But,Nolan seems to be back at his usual tricks of time and storytelling with Tenet, which stars BlacKkKlansman’s John David Washington as a secret agent who must prevent a third world war from breaking out by manipulating time. Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, and Nolan stalwarts Michael Caine and Kenneth Branagh also star. Tenet hits theater in July.
